Maybe Newcastle should be less ambitious. They should aim to get a few chargers in each town as a starting point.

Both GAC Aion and Nio have already shown 480kW chargers, and more importantly cars that can make use of them have been demonstrated and will be on sale in the next few months.

I'm sure OEMs will move in that direction, I just wonder if it's needed. Surely the challenge we need to overcome is getting people thinking about trickle/slow charging, at home and on street, rather than replacing petrol fill-up mentality with hyper-charging

I agree. My Ioniq 5 is fast enough that I am normally the limiting factor rather than the car.

Over night and destination charging is what we need to focus on. For example many holiday properties have an external 13A socket but the owners fail to recognise this is all their visitors need.

Urban chargers are being put in but many seem to be situated in prime parking areas and hence are guaranteed to be ICEd.

Agree on all counts, and it’s only going to become more of a battle for space in urban areas as more people jump into EVs!
